Race Culture and Media

Final Cover
This is the second edition book cover, I designed for Race, Culture, and Media for Sage Publications. The author requested a design similar to the first edition, so the final choice (above) maintains that familiarity, but I introduced contrasting colours to bring a fresh look.
Cover Concepts
Below are two alternative options I provided, experimenting with different fonts, textures, and colours, as well as adjusting the typography to fit the cover dimensions effectively.

For this concept, I wanted to see if the words themselves could carry the weight of the imagery. By masking textured paint inside bold, bright lettering, the typography becomes the focal point.

I refined the scale and spatial arrangement to establish an intuitive hierarchy. This ensures the title remains the focal point while the author and edition details occupy a clear, supporting role.
For this concept I shifted direction, I utilised a Western-inspired slab serif reminiscent of vintage rodeo posters. To balance the bold, off-black typography, I introduced a contrasting pastel gradient in the background for a modern twist.
