Here is a first edition book covers I designed for Sage. For How to Use Psychological Research, the author requested a playful image of an animal, I chose this dog image as the magnifying glass adds playfulness but also gives the cover a bit of a focal point and the blue sky allows for good space for the title, sub-title and authors name to be easily legible.
