For the second edition cover of Applied Statistics Using R, the author requested a design that visually represents the book's content through a collection of icons and illustrations, rather than a single dominant image. I selected an illustration featuring various graphs and statistical elements to clearly communicate the book's subject matter and resonate with its target audience.
The Veneer typeface, with its letterpress-inspired, rustic aesthetic, complements the illustrated style perfectly. I emphasised 'R' by making it the largest element, drawing the reader's eye and establishing a clear visual hierarchy among the title, subtitle, author names, and edition.
On the back cover, I incorporated illustrated elements like arrows for bullet points and a person icon and box to visually segment the author biographies, enhancing overall engagement.
